The Black Dahlia Theatre
After Matt Shakman helped start Firefly's efforts in LA in 1999, Firefly's Steven Klein helped Shakman at the Black Dahlia Theatre from 2001 through 2008, including serving as Staff Producer and acting in three productions. Matt Shakman still serves as Artistic Director of the Dahlia, which has established itself as one of the leading presenters of new plays. In addition to winning dozens of LA theatre awards, the Dahlia was named one of "a dozen young American companies you need to know" by American Theatre Magazine in December 2004, "Best Small Theatre" in Los Angeles Magazine's 2005 Best of LA issue, and "a local treasure" by the LA Weekly.
